During the long process of coevolution with humans, dogs and cats have formed unique interspecific social cognitive abilities different from other animals. At present, research on social cognition, animacy perception and interactive pet toys for dogs and cats has made certain achievements, but there are still gaps. This paper reviews the research progress of behavioral welfare needs, hunting behavior mechanism, animacy perception, cognition of inanimate interactive agents and intelligent toys for dogs and cats, expounds the characteristics of social cognition and animacy dynamic perception of dogs and cats, and points out that follow-up research should improve the long-term welfare evaluation of toys on pets, strengthen the research on cat cognition, and develop more personalized intelligent toy products.
